Weekly Thought:

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:25.

Zambia, Africa:

I have an exciting opportunity this summer to travel to Africa on a service trip. I will be part of a team assisting an organization called, Kids Alive, in reaching out to children and families in crisis. Specifically, I will be working with the teachers and children in the community schools and orphanages. While I plan to cover my own personal expenses for this trip, I welcome your assistance in helping the children of Zambia by donating an item, or a number of items, from the list below. The primary focus is on educational games that will support/enhance their curriculum.
- 10 games of Scrabble
- 10 games of Boggle
- 10 games of Upwords
- 10 games of Yatzee
- 10 games of Trouble
- 10 games of Racko
- 30 sets of playing cards
- 30 sets of dice (boxes/packages)
- 20 sets of addition/subtraction/mult.cards
- 30 Boxes of Crayola crayons
- 30 Boxes of quality Markers (dollar store is of poor quality)
- Boxes/bags of Lego and Konex, or Unifix would be great too.
Thank you for your partnership!

Parents in Action Committee (PIA):

I’d like to thank the members of our committee for doing an outstanding job this year. We had fun, we were productive and we were successful in accomplishing our goals in the areas of fun/d- raising, hospitality and in marketing and advertisement.
Special thanks goes to Marie Fava (School Events), Karen Lochhead (Hot Lunch), Julia Ventresca (Hospitality), Sandie Bressanutti (Finance) and Charissa Yavtucovich (Chair). You have been very supportive to me and the school and your contributions have been greatly appreciated. Well done ladies!
Next year, we are looking for 3 or 4 people to assist Marie with organizing and hosting our school events; namely the Book Fair and the Annual Fun Fair/Carnival. This “work group” would meet together as required (3-5 times/year) and Marie, as chair of this group, would report to the PIA Committee at their scheduled meetings.
Also, I am looking for a parent to join the Parents in Action Committee with the portfolio of school library.
If you are interested and available for either of these positions, please send a memo to me before August 15th, expressing your interest and why you think you would be a good candidate. Successful candidates will be carefully and prayerfully selected by the PIA and PAC Committees before the end of August.

Farewell:

As you already know, Mrs. McArthur will be going on maternity leave for the school year 2010-11. I have also been informed that her husband has accepted new employment in London and they will be moving there this summer. We wish Mrs. McArthur and her family well as they begin a new chapter in their lives
